Geothermy at Larderello and the Medieval Village of Castelnuovo
In order to take a look to the gushing geothermal steam and to live
the history of the endogenous steam exploitation, you need to pay a
visit to Larderello, a small town in the district of Pomarance; here
the Geothermal Museum goes over all stages which, from the first lamp,
led to the building of the first geothermal plant for the production
of electric energy. You may take a look both to plastic models and to
shafts and even visit some of the new and the old geothermal plants.
The hot waters spurting from underground may form tepid water pools
where it’s quite relaxing to take a bath (nearby Sasso Pisano
and Castelnuovo V.C.).
The medieval village of Castelnuovo is today still intact and peopled;
this pine-cone shaped little town stands on a hill in the middle of
a green scenery. By night, when its orange lights oppose to the landscape
darkness, a magical charm is created.
San Gimignano.
The medieval architecture of its histirical center is today still intact:
San Gimignano is a UNESCO protected area. Its unique skyline made up
of tall towers overlooking the Elsa Valley is considered one of the
most impressive views in Tuscany.
Worth visiting: the Cathedral, the Town Hall, the Sacred Art Museum,
The Archaeological Museum, and Saint Augustin Church; the so-called
'Vernaccia' is a typical San Gimignano wine that has always been produced
since the Middle-Ages up to now. Also worth being mentioned is the famous
Saffron of San Gimignano.
PISA.
The unique atmosphere of this town is created by the charming mixture between past and present times; Piazza dei Miracoli ('Miracles Square') and the long avenues along the River Arno banks make Pisa one of the most attractive Tuscan towns.
Worth visiting: the Cathedral, the Baptistery, the Leaning Tower.
